Dec. 13, 2012
We woke up up at 2:00am to get ready to leave for FCO Airport. Before checking out of the hotel I wanted to get one last glimpse of the Trevi Fountain. We hadn’t taken many photos together because we didn’t have a tripod so this was our chance. At this hour no one was out except for Anthony & I and the Italian Cop on duty to guard the fountain. The Trevi Fountain was peaceful, quiet & beautiful at that hour. It was worth waking up that extra half hour just to be out there. :). We couldn’t have asked for a better “last sight” before leaving central Rome to go home. We had a 1.5 hour layover in Frankfurt and then finally made it back to Seattle the next day at noon.
I’m sad that I’m finally done with my Italy trip posts. It was an incredible trip that Anthony & I will both forever remember. Paris was #1 on our travel list and we originally planned to go there in December 2012. After talking to his sister & her husband we opted to find a new destination for our trip because they said Paris was too cold in December to enjoy. Thankfully Italy was next on our list. After this trip we both realized we like cooler weather. I hate crowds and waiting in line which we got to avoid going in late Fall. December is a great month to travel because of all the Christmas markets, decor & lights.
Italy was everything we had hoped for and more. I’ve always loved to travel and was fortunate enough to get to go to Asia a few times when I was younger with my parents. After Italy though, I’ve got a new found love for travel.
The Bahamas was our first trip together which we took after graduating from UW in 2010. That was a fun & memorable trip but something about our Italy trip holds a special place in my heart. Perhaps because we’re older now and have been together almost 6 years vs 3 years when we were in Nassau. I can’t quite pinpoint what it is. Maybe because Italy has that rustic, old charm that we both love?
Every once in awhile when we look at pictures from our trip or we see something that reminds us of Italy we always reminisce about the good times. We have even talked about moving there for a couple months at a time. Once we settle down with the business we have to make this happen. I know our dream will come true someday. Ciao Italy for now! We will be back 🙂
